Natural Acne Skin CareTreating Acne with WaterCell Support Imagine a balloon filled with water - taut and firm to the touch. Let some of the water out and the balloon will shrink; the rubber may even become a little shriveled. Deprive a cell of water and you will get a similar result - both its structure and the way it works will be diminished. The process of removing water - dehydration -leaves all our bodies' cells gasping for replenishment. And this applies particularly to skin cells which are exposed to the harsh elements of the outside world - including sun, cold, heating, air-conditioning and pollution. In normal body processes - through our skin, breathing out, via our kidneys and gut - we lose about 1.5 liters of water every day. (This does not even take into account the amount we lose during strenuous exercise or on a hot day.) So the logical answer to avoiding a deficit is to supply the cells with sufficient water and maintain the health of their membranes so that water does not escape unnecessarily. Recognizing Thirst Allowing yourself to become dehydrated seriously compromises your health - it damages your immunity, your cells' ability to regenerate and repair your digestion, your energy production, your thought patterns and even your appetite control. Many of us have got used to ignoring our thirst mechanism -many of our clients say they don't drink water because they don't feel thirsty. Only when they start to increase their daily water intake, do they realize what they have been depriving themselves of Feeling hungry and tired between meals is sometimes actually due to your body's desire for water (i.e. thirst). By not giving it water you can end up eating too much or eating unhealthy snacks which contribute to the body's sugar or toxin load. Small wonder, then, that ignoring your need for water affects every aspect of your body, not least your skin. Without an adequate supply of water, your cells cannot rebuild your body, nor can they clear waste products which stack up in the cells and your blood. This turns into a vicious cycle whereby the cells cannot receive enough oxygen or nutrients to work or cleanse properly. Deep in your skin, water is a crucial component, providing the basis of a healthy, soft and youthful complexion. Although very little water is actually stored in the outermost layers of your skin, this moisture is also important and is constantly being removed by outside elements. Ironically, drinking more water-often helps overcome water retention. Various factors can encourage water retention. These include kidney problems, food intolerance and eating too much sugar, but another is not drinking enough water. If you are not supplying your body with adequate water, it will make every effort to cling on to what it does have. Other drinks will not do, only pure water counts. Coffee and tea contain natural chemicals, including caffeine, which interfere with energy production, digestion, detoxification and much more. If you have herbal teas, make sure they are pure leaves or flowers of the plant (such as camomile or dandelion) and not flavored tea which contains additives. Water Purity Having said this, the quality of the water you drink is also crucial - if it is contaminated with chemicals or metals (such as lead) it will pollute your body and interfere with all of its processes. Unfortunately, the vast majorities of water supplies are contaminated and should be avoided. Instead, you should drink mineral water if you can afford it. Alternatively, use a good-quality water filter and change the filter regularly. Many companies now deliver mineral water or pure water in large 20-litre bottles, which can be an economical way of getting good-quality water for drinking and cooking. Related Articles |
